Legal Aid has a panel of generous attorneys who provide a range of free legal services to low-income legal aid clients. These attorneys assist clients with paperwork, hearings and on occasion, full trials in family law, housing, domestic violence and other cases. Legal Aid of Sonoma County is an active participant in the internship programs at Empire Law School, the Empire Paralegal Program, and the Paralegal and Criminal Justice Program at Sonoma State University. We also welcome interns and volunteers from other law schools. Law students and paralegal students can earn internship credit by working at the Crisis Legal Advocacy Center. All interns must participate in two half-day training sessions as well as ongoing on the job training. Interns are asked to work at least 8 hrs per week for a semester or summer session. All services are provided under the supervision and mentorship of an experienced attorney and case manager. Past interns have found their internships to provide invaluable experience in interviewing clients, learning substantive law and preparing pleadings. For more information, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator, Linda Cooney at firstname.lastname@example.org
Volunteers are needed to work at the Golf Classic Tournament, Lawyers with Heart, the Equal Justice Phon-a-thon and other Special Events. Please contact Business Manager, Kathy Weir, at 707-542-6664 or email@example.com for more information on volunteering for events.
Community volunteers, particularly those that speak Spanish, are needed to interview clients and assist them with legal questions. We welcome those with legal training or experience but it is NOT required; all volunteers must participate in two half day training sessions. All services are provided under the supervision and mentorship of an experienced attorney and case manager. For more information, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator, Linda Cooney at firstname.lastname@example.org.
