Volunteer Your Time and Talent to Legal Aid

Pro Bono Attorney Program

Legal Aid welcomes attorneys willing to donate their time to aid clients. Pro Bono opportunities exist in all our departments depending on your interest and availability. Pro bono attorneys are covered by our malpractice insurance. Retired attorneys may also be eligible to have their Bar dues waived.

In 2018, Pro Bono Attorneys provided over 2,500 hours of free services to Legal Aid clients! If interested in the Pro Bono program, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator, Linda Cooney at lcooney@legalaidsc.com.

Student Internships

Legal Aid of Sonoma County is an active participant in the internship programs at Empire Law School, the Empire Paralegal Program, and the Criminal Justice Program at Sonoma State University and the Paralegal Program at Santa Rosa Junior College.

We also welcome interns and volunteers from other law schools. Law students and paralegal students can earn internship credit by working at Legal Aid.

All interns must participate in two half-day training sessions as well as ongoing on the job training. Interns are asked to work at least 8 hours per week for a semester or summer session. All services are provided under the supervision and mentorship of an experienced attorney or case manager.

Past interns have found their internships to provide invaluable experience in interviewing clients, learning substantive law and preparing pleadings.

For more information, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator, Linda Cooney at lcooney@legalaidsc.com.

Community Volunteer Program

Community volunteers, particularly those who speak Spanish, are needed to interview clients and assist them with legal questions. We welcome those with legal training or experience, but it is NOT required. All volunteers must participate in two half-day training sessions.

All services are provided under the supervision and mentorship of an experienced attorney or case manager.
